Even though Lamar Odom admits that he struggled with an addiction to drugs in the past, he claims he didn’t knowingly do any the night he overdosed in 2015. Instead, he thinks someone slipped something into his drink.
On Monday, during an appearance on “The Kyle & Jackie O Show,” the NBA champion discussed his past struggles with addiction and how he almost lost his life nearly a decade ago in Nevada.
Odom shared, “I remember being upset that I didn’t have any cocaine to take to the brothel… I had just signed the divorce papers and I thought I was just gonna go all the way in.”
The divorce he is referring to being his divorce from Khloe Kardashian, which was finalized a year later in 2016.
Odom added, “I remember, you know, actually getting there and you know, putting down a certain amount on my credit card to tell him, like, you know, let’s keep this a secret, you know, having a drink and then waking up three days later, we were all over the news… I don’t what they were able to slip into my drink or what.”
The former Sixth Man of the Year shared that when he woke up, he couldn’t walk or talk and that it took several months of rehabilitation to recover.
Even though Odom openly struggled with drug addiction at this time and cocaine was found in his system at the hospital, he claims that he didn’t knowingly do any drugs the night of his overdose.
Later in the interview, Odom revealed that his new goal in life is to help those who have struggled with an addiction to drugs. He added, “Now my mission is probably to help people who have the same problem who couldn’t help themselves be able to understand addiction and understand that it’s a brain disease.”
In October, after the shocking death of Liam Payne, Odom shared his experiences with “pink cocaine,” which was found in the English singer’s system after an autopsy.
Speaking to TMZ, Odom said, “I’ve heard voices before. The drugs could cause you to hallucinate. And if [Payne] was in a hallucination state who knows what could happen.”
