Crystal Kinchen, 23, was arrested and charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after, police say, her 2-year-old son accidentally shot his 1-year-old sister in a car in Baton Rouge, La., CBS News reports. The incident happened when Kinchen and her children were in a parked car at a strip mall Tuesday night. Kinchen was also reportedly with a male companion.

According to CBS News, the boy picked up a gun that was inside the vehicle and accidentally fired it, hitting the 1-year-old.

"[Kinchen] advised she thought it was a firecracker, but [the male] discovered her daughter on the floor of the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound," said the police report. "During the interview, [Kinchen] admitted to being preoccupied on her cellphone."
