A neighborhood in Pennsylvania's Fairview Township will be under the protection of a new neighborhood watch group … made up of members of the local chapter of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, PennLive.com reports.
That’s right: Members of the KKK are forming a neighborhood watch for the area.
The move was prompted by a recent string of break-ins that made the move seem common sense, Frank Ancona, the imperial wizard and president of the organization, told the news site. The initiative is reportedly being sponsored by the national organization at the local chapter's request.
"It's just like any neighborhood-watch program. It's not targeting any specific ethnicity. We would report anything we see to law enforcement," Ancona says. "We don't hate people. We are an organization who looks out for our race. We believe in racial separation. God created each species after its kind and saw that it was good."
And so, with the national organization's blessing, members of the local chapter have gone about their plan. The people living along Ridge Road in the township recently woke up to fliers on doorsteps announcing the watch, complete with a picture of a man in a notoriously pointed hood.
"You can sleep tonight knowing the Klan is awake!" the flyer quips. "Are there troubles in your neighborhood? Contact the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan today!" complete with a number for the 24-hour "Klanline."
Ancona did not identify any leaders of the local chapter or others involved in the distribution of the fliers, saying that locals are generally wary of discussing their connection to the organization because of the negative reputation. He added that the clan is "somewhat discriminated against."
