Weeks ago, when Creflo Dollar asked his congregation to buy him a G6 jet, the minister felt the wrath of millions online. There was so much wrath, Dolla-Dollar Bill dismantled his online fundraising campaign within hours. The audacity of Dollar’s asking his congregation to pay for a jet. Especially when his church sits right in one of Atlanta’s poorest neighborhoods. Everyone had something to say, even those in the ministry.
But of all people, there was one person who probably should have kept his mouth shut and clear of shade. Ironically, the shade came from Kirk Franklin, of all people. In a post on Patheos, the Diddy of Gospel music had a few unkind words aimed at Creflo and questioned his character.
“We don’t have a shortage of greatness, we have a shortage of character. When a pastor wants people to buy him a private plane while a missionary in Somalia bathes children with sores, that’s a shortage of character. When I camouflage my ‘greeds’ to look like ‘needs,’ that’s a shortage of character,” Franklin wrote.

Let’s talk about greed for a second and take a step back to a time when Franklin and God’s Property was constantly playing on the radio. Guess who didn’t get paid for their part in the group? Franklin was the recipient of several lawsuits because of bogus contracts and the lack of royalties paid to God’s Property. Eventually the lawsuits were settled out of court for undisclosed amounts. How are you going to cheat people who were singing about God?
Now, if that’s not greed and a shortage of character, I don’t know what is.
I’m not even going to get into Franklin’s porn issue, which he confessed to live on The Oprah Winfrey Show with his wife sitting there right next to him. That’s a whole different character issue.
Sure, Franklin may be right to question Creflo’s character, but the next time he wants to throw stones, he needs to make sure his past is squeaky clean. God forgives, but people don’t forget. Stomp on that.
