Kim Burrell may have God on her side, but God couldn't save her radio show.
Just a week after her anti-gay church sermon, Burrell has lost her talk show, Bridging the Gap With Kim Burrell, at Texas Southern University.
Burrell's show premiered in June and offered "her unique take on music, life and society," according to the website.
In a statement, the university said the show would no longer air on its network, but did not say why.
During Burrell's sermon, she made it clear as day that gay people had no place in her life.
"That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women,” Burrell preached. “You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face—you are perverted. You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted."
Well, there were plenty of people who took issue with Burrell's statement, including Ellen DeGeneres, who canceled the singer's appearance on her show. On Thursday's show, Pharrell Williams spoke out against Burrell, who appears on the Hidden Figures soundtrack he produced.
“Whenever you hear some sort of hate speech and you feel like it doesn’t necessarily pertain to you because you may not have anything to do with that, all you got to do is put the word 'black' in that sentence or put 'gay' in that sentence or put 'transgender' in that sentence or put 'white' in that sentence, and all of a sudden it starts to make sense to you,” Williams said.
“I’m telling you, the world is a beautiful place, but it does not work without empathy and inclusion. God is love. This universe is love and that’s the only way it will function," he said.
