Lynette Rice of Entertainment Weekly is reporting that comedian-actor Kevin Hart will guest-star on the ABC smash hit Modern Family. Hart will play the role of a physician who lives next door to Claire and Phil Dunphy, played by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell. Hart previously starred in Soul Plane with Modern Family star Sofia Vergara.
Hart's recent stand-up-comedy film, Laugh at My Pain, pulled in nearly $2 million in just 97 theaters for an impressive per-location gross of $20,619. The film cost only $750,000 to make. Hart hosted the 2011 BET Awards and starred in the remake of Death at a Funeral, starring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence.
Kevin Hart's star is rising — slowly but surely. A guest-starring role on one of the most popular shows on network television will only take him further. We're sure that a Hart sitcom is around the corner. Hopefully America will be ready for his brand of comedy.
