Stop everything you’re doing right now! New Kendrick just dropped.
With huge anticipation built up following a historic beef against Drake and plans to headline the 2025 Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar is back... this time with his sixth studio album titled “GNX” and the internet is in shambles.
So far, it seems people are loving “GNX.” One X user said the album is literally fire.”
Most artists would prep their fan base with a lead single, a couple music videos, and maybe some interviews, but Lamar is clearly not most artists. On Friday (Nov. 22), the Compton rapper released an one-minute video on YouTube at 11:30 a.m. alluding to a new project. Less than an hour after dropping the music video, “GNX” the album hit Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all other streaming platforms.
How can Lamar expect people to not drop everything and listen to this project? X user @55mmbae wrote she’s “pretending to be productive,” but really she’s focused on one thing.
The project has 12 songs totaling 44 minutes. Named after the iconic Buick car, “GNX” includes features from SZA, Dody6, AzChike, and more, according to Pitchfork. In addition to the star-studded feature list, the album also addresses the feud with Drake and includes a snippet from the second half of the “Not Like Us” music video.
Apparently, there’s some Spanish singing going on? X user @rielfication joked about the diverse music choice.
And it seems Drake isn’t the only one catching shots on “GNX.” User @LalaAmie79366 said apparently Lil Wayne is getting it too after throwing a fit about the alleged Super Bowl halftime show snub.
Story goes “GNX” is named after Lamar’s own car. As user @itsavibe points out, the rapper has a special relationship with the vehicle.
We already know Lamar is one of the best of his generation, and even though the album just dropped, people are already calling him the GOAT.
Let’s not forget where this all started from. On April 30, 2024, Lamar droppped “Euphoria” dissing Drake, and ever since then, every tweet of his has been legendary, as @MikeBeauvais points out.
Speaking of Drake. Has anyone checked on the Canadian rapper since the drop???
No one has had a better year that Lamar. With the unexpected success of “Not Like Us,” Lamar has gotten his props from Hip-Hop legends like Snoop Dogg who said he “united the West” with the summer hit.
