Kelly Rowland told Essence magazine Monday that she's coming out with a makeup line that will leave chocolate-hued girls very pleased.
"My makeup artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a makeup line we're making sure we make, well, we're starting off with lashes, and then we're going to have it grow for all women," she said. "But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line, and I want to do it, too!"
Rowland also recently took People magazine down memory lane, recounting all the times makeup artists jacked her up because they didn't know how to beat (makeup-industry slang for "apply makeup to") a chocolate face.
"I remember going to Europe, and there was this one makeup artist—I'm a chocolate girl, and she made me look pink," Rowland said. "And then when she tried again, I looked green. And then when she tried again, I looked way fairer than what I really am."
Yikes. When Rowland tried to take matters into her own hands and do her own makeup for an event, that didn't go quite so well, either.
"I looked like a monster in one picture. I remember Destiny's Child went to the Brit Awards, and we tried to do our faces ourselves—I looked crazy. So I had to learn!”
She's learned that "less makeup is more" and that the key is to stay as close to your original appearance as possible.
"You can look like yourself—you don't have to want to look like anybody else. Just be your own unique you. And intuition. As women, we have the best intuition, so just go with it. There's nothing wrong with it; you're spot-on."
