(The Root) — Do you remember where you were when the news of Hurricane Katrina found you?
The images of the storm are burned into our minds: hoards of people yelling into news cameras for help, citizens paddling through the streets in boats in search of survivors. Those of us outside the affected areas sat glued to our television and computer screens, wondering how this could happen in our very own backyards. But those hit by the storm knew all too well that what was being broadcast was neither fiction nor a dream.
On Twitter, those who were inside and outside the area reflected on those harrowing days after the storm, sharing stories and tweeting messages of healing to those still recovering.
