The “Karate Kid” reboot — which actually focuses on kung fu, despite the misleading title — stars Jaden Smith as an American youth who moves to China and comes under the tutelage of a martial arts expert played by Jackie Chan. The film exceeded expectations with an estimated $56 million opening weekend, a very impressive result given the movie’s $40 million production budget. It goes without saying that Sony Pictures will look to turn out several more sequels starring Smith and Chan.
