During Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, Kanye West closed out the show with pyrotechnics and a performance of “All Day” from his upcoming album, Swish, as well as “Black Skinhead” from Yeezus. But if you were at home watching the show live on television, you were probably bombarded with a lot of censorship because of his use of the n-word and other profanities.
West is now firing back at the censorship through a statement from his publicist.
“Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards. Nonprofane lyrics such as ‘with my leather black jeans on’ were muted for over 30-second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented.
“It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against,” the statement continues.
“Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned,” the statement reads.
At least viewers at home got to enjoy the pyrotechnics?
