What happens when an Internet relic and an infamous tweeter join forces? Who knows, but it’s bound to be exciting. BuzzFeed is reporting that the once wildly popular site Hot or Not—which showed subscribers photos and allowed viewers to vote on whether the person was hot or not—is relaunching, and you will never guess who has been tasked to help with marketing and promotion.
Wait for it.
Wait for it.
Does the tweet, “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” ring any bells?
That’s right: It’s Justine Sacco, the PR exec who rose to the heights of Internet infamy in December after she sent the maliciously ridiculous tweet and then hopped a plane to the continent, with no idea of the firestorm that was brewing on land. She received worldwide attention and was immediately fired from her job. Sacco later apologized and had been laying low—until now.
Hot or Not plans to turn what was once a vanity-based voting site into a full-fledged dating app. According to BuzzFeed, Sacco, who used to work for Internet company IAC, will help with the app’s promotion and relaunch.
No word on whether or not she will have anything to do with social media.
