CBS News reports that after turning himself into Chicago police on Friday, an Illinois judge set a $1 million bond for R. Kelly on Saturday, a day after he was formally charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
The “Ignition” singer has been accused of abusing four victims—at least three of whom were underage—in a series of incidents that began in 1998. The most recent allegation occurred in 2010.
According to Buzzfeed News, the conditions of his bail are as such:
- His bond is set at $1 million dollars, $250k for each case
- The court will confiscate his passport
- Neither Kelly nor his associates are allowed to communicate with alleged victims
- Kelly is forbidden from relations with anyone 18 years old or younger
Despite the fact that Kelly has spent the past several decades dodging sexual misconduct allegations in relation to dozens of underage girls, his attorney, Steve Greenberg, maintains Kelly’s innocence.
“Mr. Kelly is strong. He’s got a lot of support,” Greenberg said in a news conference Friday. “He’s going to be vindicated on all these charges —one by one if it has to be.”
