A judge has ordered Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to turn over its financial books to the courts. Judge Daniel Riley said a representative of the sorority needs to submit the group's check register, minutes book and wire transfer documents after the group refused to retrieve the records, which a former president won the right to inspect on July 1. The request was made so that members would have the information in order to vote on proposed changes to the leadership and bylaws at this week's national meeting in St. Louis. You have to keep the books for legal and tax purposes anyway, so why not turn them over? The information is made available to the membership at each meeting, so again, why hold the books if there's nothing to hide?
