On Monday (July 15), Amber Rose made a surprising appearance at the Republican National Convention to show her unabashed support for Donald Trump. “I believed the left-wing propaganda that Donald Trump was a racist,” Rose said to the mostly white crowd.
“Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay, or straight, it’s all love. And that’s when it hit me. These are my people, this is where I belong.”
Not only was the model dragged on social media for her remarks, but MSNBC media personality Joy Reid chimed in on the spectacle as well.
“She’s racially ambiguous. I don’t wanna say she’s Black because she has said she’s not, so I don’t wanna say this Black woman,” Reid said, referring to Rose calling herself as mixed race over the years. “This woman who is of whatever race that she has claimed, she’s said she’s not Black, but [the RNC] brought somebody whose whole career is based in Black culture.”
Reid also cited how Rose’s past romantic relationship with Kanye West also helped her reach fame and explained how the right is shamelessly benefitting from her pop culture currency.
“She is now the person they’re using to try to recruit young people of color and to say that this is the person who is the endorser of Donald Trump who you should trust when she won’t even claim the culture that brought her to the table, I’m dubious that this will work,” Reid stated.
Rose’s move to conservatism is an appalling one and it seems like it may be another ploy for attention. As Reid pointed out, Black folks never have taken political cues from Amber Rose — and we sure as hell aren’t going to start now.
