Jordan Peele, he of “taking over your horror genre for the ’99 and 2000s” fame, has a highly anticipated upcoming project entitled Us, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke. Given the supreme success of the critically-acclaimed Get Out, all he had to do was post a poster of the film on social media, and everybody was here for it.
And that’s what exactly what happened. Following the exciting casting announcement, we didn’t know much about the project outside of the tagline, “A new nightmare from the mind of Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.”
“A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid’s Tale),” reads the extended synopsis acquired by Slash Film. “But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.”
So, basically, the very thing you do to relax will instead contribute to your torment? Of course, unplugging means not being able to sufficiently ask for help. Or maybe the very act of unplugging summoned the creepy visitors? The possibilities are endless. Regardless of the catalyst, the plot looks like it’ll be a classic “Us vs. Them” story. Peele, you brilliantly creepy fucker, you.
The additional details reportedly came with test screening invites, so the bulk of it (i.e., its larger themes) will still be left a mystery, naturally. Peele hasn’t directly commented on the reported synopsis release at this time.
According to Vanity Fair, Peele already has five social thrillers in the works, each dealing with a “different monster,” which lives within each of us. He’s hoping to release them all within the next decade. Knowing that mind of his, I’m sure that’s just the beginning.
Us will be released in theaters on March 15, 2019.

Just days after the reported synopsis was released, Jordan Peele made a chess move and dropped a new teaser poster on his Twitter account Thursday.
“Watch yourself,” his ominous tweet read with a picture of a nigga wearing what looks like a male version of the infamousred Handmaid’s Tale smock, holding a pair of scissors. That’s it.
The film already has its own emoji hashtag, too. Holy marketing, Batman!
Ok, you got me, Peele. I’m intrigued as fuck. Well played.
