At this point we’re fairly used to TV host and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen—who is, hands down, the best person on Twitter—being the voice-y one in the relationship. But that wasn’t the case Wednesday night, when a TMZ reporter ran up on Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend, as they left a restaurant in Beverly Hills, Calif.
As TMZ’s video shows, the photographer starts off trying to goad Legend, asking the singer and Oscar nominee if he feels that Rep. Maxine Waters will cost Democrats the midterms.
“That’s ridiculous,” he said while signing autographs. “Maxine is the OG and she did a great job. And she called [Trump] out when she needed to,” Legend said, referring to the California congresswoman’s comments encouraging the public to harass officials in Donald Trump’s administration.
The photographer then lobbed an inane question about Whitehouse press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and whether it was too much that she was “fat-shamed” by actress Claudia Jordan.
“I mean, should we be personally attacking politicians even if they’re on the other side of the aisle?” asked the photographer.
That’s when Legend, who could have just done an Arthur Fist and got into his car, decided that He. Had. Time. Today.
“Ask me should we be reuniting 2,000 kids with their families,” he said as he assisted Teigen into the car (ever the gentleman, that John).
“I don’t care about fucking Sarah Sanders,” Legend said directly into the TMZ camera. “Reunite the fucking kids with their families; then we’ll talk about Sarah Sanders and her fucking dinners.”
And that, my friends, is how you have a conversation about civility. You 1) center what needs to be talked about and 2) say it with your fucking chest.
