Our colleague Adam Serwer goes in on Jim DeMint over at Firedog Lake:
Over the weekend, a cacophony of shrieking Republican legislators attacked the President for not treating the failed X-Mas bomber with the same gravity Cuban Missile Crisis. One2 of the more transparently craven statements made was Senator Jim DeMint’s implication that the Obama administration cared more about unionizing airport workers than national security.
Asked by host Chris Wallace whether he was concerned that “the Obama administration has not done as good a job as it should have in connecting the dots,” DeMint replied “Chris, I am concerned, because it’s related to another issue that we’re dealing with now in the Senate. The administration is intent on unionizing and submitting our airport security to union bosses’ collective bargaining”.
Today Spencer points out that DeMint himself is holding up the administration’s appointment to the Transportation Security Administration. The reason, according to McClatchy:
The post remains vacant because Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has held up President Barack Obama’s nominee in opposition to the prospect of TSA workers joining a labor union.
The Obama administration doesn’t care more about unionizing workers than terrorism. Jim DeMint cares more about unionizing workers than terrorism.
Do you think Adam's right about DeMint or does the senator from South Carolina deserve a break?
