She’s the straight-talking grandmother on black-ish and the self-proclaimed “Mother of Black Hollywood,” but “Auntie” Jenifer Lewis also has issues.
Political issues, that is.
Just ahead of the highly-anticipated New York primaries on Thursday, Lewis made another in her ongoing series of musical social media posts, encouraging millennials to “get woke” and “get out and vote” in the midterms this November, calling on the currently sparring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B to help rally the troops behind that unifying message.
“Cardi B? Nicki? It’s Auntie! ... Come help me! Now, you know we love you both. So help Auntie spread this quote: Remember in November, to vote,” Lewis declares. She goes on to point out the barbaric nature of the current American president, and remind millennials that it’s their turn to take “center stage” and put their considerable influence into the political process.
If Lewis can strike a peace accord between these two, we will happily vote for her for Secretary of State. But for now, we’re just going to throw our endorsement behind her political plea: “Now everybody knows I can tell a joke, but see, I need y’all to get woke. ... So get out, and vote.”
