Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn't even premiered yet, but people are already talking about the future of the franchise and the eighth movie in the series. But there's one thing the franchise hasn't had yet, and that's a female director, and The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has one woman in mind when it comes to his top pick.

In a recent interview with Nerdist, Abrams spoke highly about Selma director Ava DuVernay.

"The knee-jerk reaction if I had to is Ava DuVernay, who I think would just kill it. She is as much a fan of genre movies, and hearing her talk about not just Star Wars but those kinds of films is evidence that she would just kill it. When you look at her work in Selma, which was as well told and as sophisticated and humane a film as I think has come out in the last decade, if she can do that story that well, there's no question she would kill this movie," Abrams stated.

One can't deny DuVernay's talent or star power when it comes to a box-office draw. Not only would DuVernay be the first female director of a Star Wars movie, if Abrams had his way, but she'd also be the first director of a Star Wars movie to have had a Barbie doll made in her image.
