Drake’s Scorpion album may be whatever the digital-media age equivalent of a coaster would be, but that doesn’t stop it from having some bangers. “God’s Plan” still goes hard in the paint as does “Nice For What.” And thanks to a new viral video dance challenge based on Drake’s song “In My Feelings,” I believe started by TheShiggyShow (highly likely since nearly every single hashtag on the challenge includes #TheShiggyDance as well), Drake has another banger on his hands because the song is basically on repeat on the internet.
I have to give Drake a lot of credit here for creating—intentionally or not—social media moments out of nowhere. While Drake name checks several women on “In My Feelings,” Kekes are about to have the best summer ever because the challenge largely centers on the beginning of the song where Keke catches the name check.
I realize that I have many other things to do with my time; I could be writing something poignant, attempting to find a cure for world hunger or even parenting effectively. When I tell you, though, that I have literally spent hours watching videos of people, largely youngins, knocking out this #InMyFeelingsChallenge, I’m not exaggerating. Celebrities like Odell Beckham Jr., Ciara, DJ Khaled, Tinashe and James Harden at a Meek Mill concert all have gotten in on the act. Lots of celebrities are getting into this.
And, of course, Lil Duval gets in on it too, fresh off the heels of his smash hit, “Smile Bitch” and his Venice Beach dance video singing about how he ain’t going back and forth with you niggas, which admittedly, has become a bit of a personal anthem.
Back to the #InMyFeelingsChallenge. The vast majority are people getting out of their cars and hitting some version of that Shiggy Dance, but because today’s youth are so much more entertaining than I remember from my childhood, some of the folks are absolutely going for the gold. And I can’t for the life of me understand why I’m so fascinated by these videos.
I wasn’t even this entertained by the #MannequinChallenge, though I absolutely participated in more than one iteration of said challenge. I’ve yet to give the #InMyFeelingsChallenge some run, especially because there are almost 18,000 hits for that search on Instagram and I haven’t even thought to check Twitter.
Plus, I’m not sure I could do better than this woman, singer DaniLeigh. Because she’s is absolutely not going back and forth with you niggas, she is living her best life.
She added some ghostride-the-whip action there and, I mean, what more can you ask for?
While I have no idea if Keke still loves Drake or not, she’s made my life better by inspiring art that inspired a viral challenge that I love for no other reason than it exists.
Now excuse me while I go try not to get hit by a car as I give my best effort to this challenge. I’m paid up on my medical insurance and I’m in my feelings.
If you too want to burn hours of your life on mindless entertainment set to Drake’s never-ending parade of feelings, well, just Google #InMyFeelingsChallenge and you can sit in IveGotBetterShitToDoVille with me an hour later.
Also, somebody please call Keke and ask her if she still loves Drake.
