Kendrick Lamar has made hip-hop history. His 2012 studio album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has appeared on the Billboard 200 chart for the most weeks of any hip-hop studio album ever, pushing Eminem out of that No. 1 spot.

As of Sunday, good kid, m.A.A.d city has sat on the Billboard 200 chart for 358 weeks, according to Chart Data, surpassing Eminem’s 2002 studio album, The Eminem Show, by one week:

However, Eminem remains the king for holding the record for longest-charting hip-hop album overall, with 2005's Curtain Call: The Hits. However, as XXL explains, that album is a compilation of previously released material, not a studio work.

As Genius notes:

Since its release, good kid, m.A.A.d. city has charted every week except the chart dated Dec. 6, 2014.

In addition, per Genius, the album was certified three times platinum in 2018, and numerous songs on the album, including “Poetic Justice,” have gone multiplatinum.

Looks like another winning year for Lamar, who last year became the first rapper to win the Pulitzer Prize.

This year, in addition to this latest Billboard 200 feat, 2019 also made Lamar a father. As XXL notes, he and his fiancee, Whitney Alford, welcomed a baby girl over the summer.
