The 2010 Vanity Fair "New Hollywood" cover (pictured here) caused a stir by "completely lack[ing] diversity" and overlooking obvious up-and-comers like Gabourey Sidibe, Zoe Saldana and Freida Pinto.
Perhaps the editors took note of readers' disappointment with the "exclusionary" choices. This year's cover is much less monochromatic. Check out Anthony Mackie and Rashida Jones accompanying celebs like Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Since Vanity Fair seems to be open to input, may we suggest exploring the idea of featuring a black actor on the front (versus side, pull-out) panel one of these years? Just something to think about.
Baby steps.
