Here’s an important piece of advice for celebrities: We don’t need your opinions on every hot button issue. Honestly, we’d prefer it if you kept some things to yourself. Case in point, the current Israel-Gaza war has seen several celebrities find themselves in hot water due to controversial comments. The latest unexpected name to get caught up in the ongoing war is actress/comedian Tiffany Haddish.
On Tuesday, the “Girls Trip” star hosted an Instagram Live video from from what appeared to be a business class seat on a plane. She claimed that she was preparing to fly to Israel to “get educated.” To explain, Haddish is Jewish and seemed very excited to discover more about her faith, but she also appeared naive about the bad timing of the trip.
“I’m gonna go meet my future man out there. I’m out. I’m going to the Holy Land. I suggest you all do it,” she said.
Haddish, who was recently charged with DUI, confirmed several times that she was drinking orange juice, not a mimosa. She also sang a little song about her plans, saying, “On my way to Tel Aviv, then to Jerusalem. Then I’m going to the Dead Sea and goin’ get me some. Gonna have some fun, yeah. It’s gonna be great. Then I’m gonna learn about the politics, ay.”
When someone asked about Gaza, she responded, “Who said I wasn’t going to Gaza? I said I’m going to go see with my own eyes. Gotta go to Israel first.”
Additionally, “And isn’t Gaza in Israel?” she said. “Ain’t it all on the same continent, the same little piece of land and surrounded by water?”
The “Night School” star called the trip a “history lesson,” saying, “This is an educational trip for me. I want to go get educated. I want to see what’s really going on. I want to learn how it started, why it started.”
She made it clear that this is all about getting in touch with her faith, though as you would expect, social media was not pleased with Tiffany’s travel plans.
As Someone on X, f.k.a. Twitter, noted the star’s lack of understanding about the trip’s poor timing, writing, “Tiffany Haddish is the definition of tone deaf.”
Another person showed sympathy for the “Haunted Mansion” actress’ team, posting on X, “Imagine being on Tiffany Haddish’s PR team. It would be stressful af.”
One user commented on how difficult it is to understand the comedian’s decision making, writing on X, “When she’s at her best, she does things like producing ‘Tiffany Haddish: They Ready’ on Netflix which features Black women comedians. Some felt it revived their careers. When she’s at her worst, she makes terrible choices.”
We are not here to judge Tiffany’s commitment or connection to her faith. However, social media commentators seem to agree that this really isn’t the time for any of this, and it’s a little shocking that neither she nor her team seem to realize that.
