Fans were left frustrated and wanting more after the reunion of “The Real Housewives of New York City” (RHONY) aired. The two-part event finally addressed the bombshell season 15 finale, giving co-stars Ubah Hassan and Brynn Whitfield the chance to hash it out for good. But now that the two women settled their differences, the fate of Whitfield on the reality TV show seems to be up in the air.
During the reunion, emotions were high as Whitfield and Hassan recalled the night chaos ensued during their trip to Puerto Rico. All the cast mates got to share their peace, but what surprised everyone during the reunion was when Hassan walked over to Whitfield sitting on the opposite couch, hugged her, and forgave her.
Unlike Hassan, the other cast members weren’t so quick to forgive Whitfield after their Puerto Rico trip led to a falling out between Whitfield and practically everybody else. Leading everyone to wonder if she’ll return next season.
Bombshell Season Finale Explained
The Root previously reported on all the drama that unfolded during a group trip to Puerto Rico. Hassan first claimed Whitfield “may” have slept with an executive to secure her spot on the show. But everything ramped up a notch when Whitfield later told the other housewives she was especially hurt by Hassan’s accusation because she previously confided in Hassan about being sexually assaulted.
Most of the cast mates were on Whitfield’s side until word got back to Hassan about Whitfield’s confession to the women. Then, it became clear her story wasn’t adding up. Hassan was even sent reeling, crying and throwing up over the entire situation. In the end, it was revealed that Whitfield never had the phone conversation she claimed to have with Hassan, and with that, all the women began turning their backs on her.
Fan Reactions
Online, fans of RHONY expressed their frustration with the Whitfield/Hassan drama. @emma_oyomba tweeted “Brynn having SIX people explaining to her the severity of her actions & also telling her that the way she recalls things happening did in fact not happen that way and her STILL refusing to just acknowledge it and apologize shows me she’s is living in a state of delusion.”
Another user, @jennS012, agreed calling Whitfield “calculating and manipulative.”
In the end, Hassan and Whitfield seemingly made up. But just because Hassan forgave her for lying, that doesn’t mean the rest of the Bravo community does. X user @graciejones730 said “I don’t care if Ubah has forgiven Brynn. I still don’t want her back next season.”
Many fans remember Whitfield’s recent interview with Rolling Stone and say she’s completely changed her tune from the reunion. Whitfield gave “an emotional apology yet she had a Rolling Stones article locked and loaded still doubling down on her heinous actions,” said @glisteninnn on X.
Brynn’s Rolling Stone Interview
In the interview, the reality TV star doubled down on feeling ostracized by the other women while filming. “That was shocking,” Whitfield said. “You’re telling me that in the three minutes from when I’m called horrible names [by Hassan] and I’m obviously upset that I somehow devised a plan?”
She continued saying she’s still confused by everyone’s sudden change in behavior. “I look back, I’ve scanned every text, I’ve checked every conversation, and I have no idea.” The interview happened after the reunion was filmed but before the episodes aired. “After the reunion, I personally felt like — are we in a position where everything is fixed and perfect? No, not remotely,” Whitfield admitted. “But at least we’re now, maybe hopefully at step one.”
