Rumors are circulating that former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland is vying for the role of Donna Summer in the Spike Lee-directed film Spinning Gold. The biopic chronicles the life of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, whose talents took him from being a poor kid from Brooklyn, N.Y., to launching the career of Summer, as well as those of Kiss, Joan Jett and the Village People. Pop singer Justin Timberlake will take on the role of Bogart.
Rowland, who is pregnant with her first child, posted an Instagram photo reminiscent of Summer’s 1970s look. Rowland captioned the photo: #tbt #DonnaSummer-ish #LovetoLoveYa.
You definitely can’t deny that she has the look, but what about the acting chops?
Summer rose to fame in the ’70s with hits that included “Last Dance,” “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Bad Girls.” Summer died in 2012 after a battle with cancer.
