(The Root) — On Tuesday morning, the Internet welcomed its latest viral superstar. Video of an interview with Charles Ramsey, a Cleveland man who helped rescue three missing local women, has been making the rounds online since the story broke. Less than 24 hours in, there are multiple memes and auto-tuned videos of Ramsey's account.
Unsurprisingly, the jokes on Twitter are flowing like water, with some questioning whether or not the way we treat people like Ramsey and viral sensations before him, such as Antoine Dodson and Sweet Brown — men and women with amazing stories overshadowed by the Internet's fixation on their colorful personalities — is disrespectful. In the conversation about it all on Twitter, some consider it belittling and mocking, arguing that amid the ruckus, the victims and the heroic deed are forgotten.
