Leave it to our tone-deaf president to use a tragic event and make it all the more so with his tiny Twitter fingers.
In the wake of the London terror attack that left seven dead and 12 suspects arrested, President Donald Trump angrily twisted London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s words, basically branding him soft on terror.
Mind you, this is the same man who has nothing to say when African Americans are attacked in his very own country, but I digress.
Trump started off well and presidential enough at first, tweeting, “Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U. K., we will be there - WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!
But that quickly went to pot as Trump’s baser instincts got the better of him.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’” Trump wrote Sunday morning. He also said we should stop being “politically correct” and ostensibly trample people’s rights in the name being “smart.”
The president was responding to a statement Khan released after the terror attack, but only referenced part of it. Here’s Khan’s entire sentence: “Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. No reason to be alarmed.”
Khan also “condemned the attacks in the strongest possible terms,” and called them “barbaric.”
“There aren’t words to describe the grief and anger that our city will be facing today. I’m appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists would deliberately target innocent Londoners,” Kahn said, according to The Guardian.
Trump also tweeted that it’s time to restore his twice-struck-down travel “ban” (his words)—because why not turn a tragedy into a political op?
Way to show mature compassion, leader of the free world.
Maybe the president should check out this new video that delves into why Americans irrationally fear and hate Muslims. It’s apparently all we ever see and hear, sadly, even from the Oval Office.
