Indianapolis police authorities are investigating the death of a Black woman who was found in a wooded area. Police say the last person she was with was her Uber driver...however, she never made it home.

Indianapolis Metro Police Department officers responded to the 1800 block of Wagner Lane the afternoon of Sept. 9. Police said they received a report of a dead person found in a wooded area near a home. There, police found the nude body of a Black woman identified as 30-year-old Chanti Dixon, per ABC News. Police said she suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

Investigators say Dixon was en route home from work around 3:30 a.m. in an Uber the previous night. According to court documents, police were able to locate her Uber driver, 29-year-old Francisco Valadez, who confessed to attempting to have sex with Dixon in the back of his car.

When Dixon refused, Valadez told officers he got infuriated and shot her, the report says. He then confessed to dragging her body from her car and hiding it behind a concrete barrier at the end of the street.

“She just moved over here and seemed like a pretty good woman. She stayed to herself. She was with her kids and her little dog. She had a cute little dog,” said a neighbor to WTHR.

Now, Valadez is charged with her murder, but he may face more charges.

In response to the incident, Uber released a statement to 13News: “We strive to build a platform where every experience is safe, comfortable and positive, and what these riders experienced is deeply upsetting. We make our non-discrimination policy clear to all users and take any report of this nature seriously. We’re continuing to investigate this, and will take appropriate action.”

The company also stated Valadez was banned from the rideshare app.
