An Indiana mother of five was fatally shot in front of her own home, with her children just inside, Fox 59 reports

Nerva Singleton of Indianapolis had reportedly been returning home when someone shot her on the front porch and drove away around 4 a.m. March 14.

“For someone to just […] wait for her and gun her down and have her five kids see her like that, that was senseless,” Singleton’s cousin Ilisha Hood told the news station.

Singleton, 40, bled to death on her porch. Her children, ranging in age from 3 to 24, were home at the time and heard the  gunshots.

“Someone just plainly came and shot my mother down in cold blood, in front of the house where all the children could see. We watched our mother pass away this morning,” Singleton’s oldest daughter, Jana Singleton, said. The grieving 24-year-old, who is pregnant with Nerva Singleton’s second grandchild, said that she has no idea who would want to kill her mom.

“I can’t. I don’t understand why someone would do it in cold blood, right where we live, where the children sleep; I just don’t understand why,” Jana Singleton said.
