With so many families converging on Washington next week, the inauguration has become as much family reunion as historic event. Writer Curtis Sittenfeld, author of American Wife, has penned "All Along, This Was What Was Supposed to Happen," a wonderful novella for our sister site, Slate, about one such reunion.

In this third installment, "Stars and Stripes Forever," Patrice and Aunt Lettie get settled into their inaugural abode — a Dupont Circle apartment found on none other than Craig's List. Though nowhere near Capitol Hill, their new neighborhood is brimming with energy and Patrice finally begins to relax. But a startling late-night discovery quickly changes everything.

We can't wait to read part four of this novella!

Read.
