(The Root) — Campaign 2012 has been defined by controversy, and the upcoming presidential debates are expected to involve their fair share. For those in the Washington, D.C., area, IMPACT, an organization that works toward civil engagement, political involvement and economic empowerment for leaders between the ages of 21 and 40, will be hosting, along with The Root, a series of debate-watching parties geared toward college students and young professionals. The group will also be teaming up with AARP to hold Twitter events focusing on Social Security and Medicare.
The goal is to get people "#VoteReady" for Election Day on Nov. 6. IMPACT was also at the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference and Democratic National Convention this year with the same motivation.
Take a look at its schedule for debate-watching parties this month, which already included a #VoteReady tweetup discussing Social Security on Oct. 2.
On Oct. 3, 8-11 p.m., there is a Presidential Debate Watch Party at George Washington University's Marvin Center Continental Ballroom.
On Oct. 16 at 1 p.m., IMPACT is leading a #VoteReady tweetup discussing Medicare. And there's another Presidential Debate Watch Party at Howard University's Blackburn Center Digital Auditorium, 8-11 p.m.
