While Idris Elba basks in the glory of being named People’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” his daughter is making a name for herself in an amazing way.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Wednesday that Isan Elba—daughter of Idris and makeup artist and businesswoman Kim Elba—will serve as the 2019 Golden Globe Ambassador.

In the role, Isan will not only assist with distributing the Golden Globe trophies during the awards ceremony in January, but she will also choose a nonprofit organization to work with to raise awareness for a cause of her choosing.

HFPA President Meher Tatna made the announcement and introduced Isan as the 2019 Golden Globe Ambassador at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles.

“Last year, the HFPA renamed the title to represent a more inclusive role that was not only gender-neutral but also spoke to the HFPA’s commitment to philanthropy,” Tatna said. “However, we are continuing to stand by the tradition that the honoree is the daughter or son of a well-known actor.”

Isan has chosen mental health as the cause she would like to focus on.

“I feel honored to hold this title and use this role to not only further educate people on the work of the HFPA, but also shine a light on issues that I care about,” she said. “Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers, in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. There’s this perceived stigma and I’ve seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.”

The Golden Globe Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the HFPA. The Golden Globe Ambassador is chosen yearly by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and is traditionally the son or daughter of one of the industry’s most respected actors, directors, or producers of our time. They provide assistance during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

The title was formerly Miss/Mr. Golden Globe, but was changed in 2017 “to represent a more inclusive role that is gender-neutral and speaks to the HFPA’s commitment to philanthropy.”
