In interview after interview promoting his Straight Outta Compton film, rapper, actor and producer Ice Cube has been adamant about what the true essence of hip-hop is: It is an art form that describes the times we live in—good and bad. It's not an outlet that promotes or glorifies violence.
He demonstrated that Saturday night when he shut down a show in Long Beach, Calif., where he and his son were performing after a few concertgoers began to fight.
"This is bulls—t right here," Ice Cube can be heard saying in one of the videos during the commotion.
His son O'Shea Jackson Jr., who played his father in Straight Outta Compton, was rapping alongside his dad when the fight broke out. Ice Cube and Jackson exited stage left after the incident.
It's a great lesson for concertgoers and concert promoters: Tomfoolery will not be condoned or entertained.
