Over the weekend, Theodric Collins, 36, was taken in by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at the Port of Miami for his myriad of out-of-state arrest warrants. But he made a wild move while in custody that has him on the run at press time.
While in police custody, Collins claimed that he was dealing with chest pains and as a result, Miami police-Dade police took him to a local hospital to be checked out.cOnce he was medically cleared, officers were on their way to transport him to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Warrants Bureau.
But when they went to his hospital room, he was no longer there.
According to WSVN 7News, the 36-year-old was able to somehow escape the emergency room he was in (with his handcuffs on) and flee from the hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.
But Collins didn’t evade like any normal criminal would: Once he got out of the hospital, he was picked up in a silver Maserati with an Alabama license plate on it.
More from WSVN 7News:
Collins has an extensive criminal history. Records show he was arrested in Mississippi for felony shoplifting, reckless driving, fleeing from police and property theft. He was also arrested in Alabama in 2023 for leading police on a high-speed chase.
Currently, Collins is still on the run and there is no specific location where he was last seen.
Just this year alone, there have been several cases of suspects escaping police custody.
In August, Quinntel Maurice Bagley, 38, was taken into custody by Ohio authorities after an unidentified woman claimed he kidnapped her. Somehow she was able to escape and report Bagley to the police.
But once he was in police custody, he was able to escape custody (with his handcuffs still on) and get away from the authorities. He was on the run for another two weeks before being arrested again by local Ohio police.
