Listen, I love Beyoncé as much as the next red-blooded person, but after sitting in traffic for a measly two to three hours trying to leave the FedEx Field in Landover, Md., after the On the Run II concert, I was pretty much convinced that I wouldn’t be attending another one of her shows.
But apparently, no trouble is too much trouble when it comes to Zemarcuis Devon Scott and his faves. The 18-year-old was arrested at the Texarkana Regional Airport in Arkansas on July 4 after he apparently told investigators that he had planned to fly a stolen plane to a rap music concert in another state.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, when the police asked Scott about his lack of training as a pilot, he shrugged it off. The hours of training required to start, take off, fly and then safely land a plane isn’t gonna stop a true stan.
Scott told police that he didn’t think there’d be much to it other than pushing a few buttons and pulling some levers.
The whole amazing incident began at 2:30 a.m., when airport security contacted police about a man who had jumped a fence and attempted to board an American Eagle twin-engine jet. By the time officers arrived at the scene, Scott was already on the small commercial plane, doors closed, and I guess ready to take off?
Officers shined a flashlight into the plane’s cockpit from outside, apparently spotting Scott in the pilot’s seat with his hands out of view. An officer drew his weapon, fearing for his safety, then ordered Scott to keep his hands up where they could be seen.
Two of the three responding officers then managed to open the plane’s door, while the third continued to monitor Scott.
On Monday, Scott was officially charged with commercial burglary and attempted theft of property with a value greater than $25,000, both felonies. If convicted he faces anywhere between three to 10 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.
Scott is currently being held at Miller County Jail, where his bail is set at $25,000.
It is not clear what concert exactly Scott was trying to fly to, but really, do you even love your faves if you’re not willing to (allegedly) steal a plane?
