While Beyoncé was getting in formation at Houston’s NRG Stadium on Saturday night, a local Houston law-enforcement group was in formation to boycott what it called the singer’s “anti-police” imagery.
The Coalition of Police and Sheriffs stood a mile away from the concert venue and spoke with KHOU11 about its boycott.
“Some of her performances we believe to be anti-police,” COPS member Tony Ragsdale told KHOU11.
Those comments were more than likely in response to the singer’s standing on top of a police car in her video for “Formation.” In an interview with Elle, Beyoncé addressed the controversy head-on.
“Anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken,” she explained. “I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of the officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let’s be clear, I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things.”
Too bad the members of COPS and other law-enforcement officers don’t seem to realize that.
