Fun fact: I am of a generation of women who wore brown lipstick (sans lipliner, in my case) as we came of age. In fact, my signature shade—and maybe yours, too—was L’Oréal’s Colour Riche in Brazil Nut (formerly number 333 but rebranded as 850 in recent years). It was the perfect, creamy caramel-brown—my first experience with a nude shade.
I still keep a tube of Brazil Nut on hand at all time, right alongside my new favorite long-wearing red, Fenty Beauty’s Stunna Lip Paint in “Uncensored.” So imagine my delight to discover over the weekend that my worlds had collided—in the best imaginable way!
When Rihanna premiered her latest NYFW Savage x Fenty collection on September 12, wearing a brown tulle bodycon dress and matching lip shade, I was intrigued, especially knowing that the entire presentation included Fenty Beauty. And my curiosity—along with many others’—was satisfied when just 10 days later, our number one Stunna introduced a sequel: a new chocolate brown shade called “Unveil.”
The new shade launched Friday—just in time for the start of fall—and promises to be flattering on every shade of skin. Needless to say, I was instantly sold, and made sure to cop mine before it sold out, no doubt joining legions of Fenty devotees who’ll be rocking this autumnal shade in the new season. And I will happily join that club; like its predecessor, Unveil pretty much indelible, super-saturated, and, in this new shade, decidedly brown with a touch of mauve in the undertone.
And while the shade is wearable by everyone, if you’re a devotee of determining your perfect nude by the shade of your nipples (don’t @ me, @ science), there’s a decent chance that you’ll be at least olive-skinned if you consider this your perfect nude.
But if, like the woman who inspired Unveil, you want to make a bold statement, this Stunna is the one for you.
