Birmingham prosecutors have revealed what happened to Mahogany Jaquise Jackson in the 24 hours she was missing before being found dead by police the following day.
The details are absolutely horrifying.
Police arrested a group of eight people - men and women - alleged to have beaten, tortured and gang-raped Jackson on the evening of Feb 24, per AL.com. Police say Jackson knew each of them. During a hearing Friday for the suspects, homicide Detective Mark Green testified that the abduction began at the home of one suspect after Jackson arrived there. Videos recorded by one of the men show Jackson being stomped on and spit on. Green said another man was seen straddling her on the ground while throwing punches at her head.
The detective said Jackson was heard begging for mercy, saying they “won” and pleading for them to let her go. Unfortunately, the assault was just part one of the terror.
Green said in another video following the beating, one suspect is seen taking off Jackson’s shirt. In another clip, he said Jackson was naked, being dragged by her hair toward a car. Someone yells off camera to throw her in the trunk and she was then transferred to another suspect’s home.

At Serenity Apartments, she was forced to perform oral sex on one suspect at gunpoint. The detective testified that the man threatened to do something to her if she didn’t “do it right” or if he didn’t “enjoy” the sexual act. Afterwards, Jackson’s pants were pulled down and the man ordered another suspect to sexually assault her. All eight of the suspects were present at some point during the incident. Eventually, Jackson was taken from the apartment by three of the men.
Police believe shortly after sending messages to her family for help, Jackson was shot in the head. Her mother previously told local Alabama news that Jackson’s sister received a pin for her location and a message saying she was being held hostage. Jackson told them to call the police but not to call her phone. Authorities said Jackson’s body was found the day after the assault under a mattress at an illegal dumpsite dubbed “Dead Man’s Road.”
Three suspects - 24-year-old Brandon Pope, 25-year-old Francis Harris and 18-year-old Jeremiah McDowell - were charged with two counts of capital murder, one for first-degree kidnapping and one for first-degree sodomy. The five others - 26-year-old Teja Lewis, 23-year-old Si’Niya McCall, 23-year-old Giovannie Clapp, 25-year-old Blair Green and 23-year-old Ariana Lashay Robinson - face felony murder murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sodomy. Clapp and Lewis have an additional second-degree assault charge for allegedly pistol whipping Jackson.
All are being held without bond.
