Marvin Ellison, the current executive vice president at Home Depot Inc., and a retail veteran with about three decades in the industry, will face some big challenges when he takes on the role of J.C. Penney CEO, the Associated Press reports.

As the news wire notes, the department store chain has been trying to recover after suffering billions in losses but is still struggling to woo customers back. Ellison has been chosen to lead the company in that effort starting next August.

According to AP, Ellison’s task will be to fix the issues that caused the retailer to lose its customers to begin with—ranging from criticisms that the stores didn’t carry the latest looks available at other popular stores, such as Macy’s, to claims that its website wasn’t shopper-friendly and didn’t have enough variety.
