Bill Cosby has a glimmer of a silver lining after a week that involved stories of drugging a woman with Quaaludes. This week, after the release of court depositions, Cosby’s star power continues to fade, but his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame isn’t going anywhere.
A group of black civil rights activists tried to get the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove Cosby’s star from the famed sidewalk. High-profile activists, including Earl Ofari Hutchinson of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable and Najee Ali of Project Islamic Hope, called upon the chamber to remove the star following the release of court documents in which Cosby admitted getting drugs to give women for sex.
“Drugging and rape are serious crimes, and having a star on the walk honoring Cosby after his admissions of these acts is a gross slap at the industry and the public,” Hutchinson and Ali wrote in a letter.
Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, in a statement to The Wrap, said the group “has received inquiries asking whether we are planning to remove the stars of Donald Trump and Bill Cosby. The answer is no. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the walk.”
I guess this could be considered an early birthday present for Cosby.
