It may be less than a week since Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders and Tracey Edmonds announced the end of their engagement. But now, Edmonds is clarifying exactly what happened.
In a since-deleted post to Instagram over the weekend, the television producer addressed her recent breakup, making it known that the decision was hers despite the “falsehoods” being put out on the internet.
“I hate to have to respond to the media, but sometimes it’s necessary when the falsehoods get out of control!” she wrote. “I want to clarify that it was my decision to end the relationship, despite any different narratives being presented,” she said. “I’ve chosen to prioritize myself and my family, moving forward towards a future where I am valued, treated with honesty, and free to embrace the happiness and respect I deserve.”
As previously reported by The Root, Edmonds and Sanders met in 2012 in what initially started off as just a work relationship, as the two were working together to produce his popular 2014 reality show, “Deion’s Family Playbook.” They started dating shortly after and were engaged in 2019.
They called off their engagement at the top of December, much to the surprise of fans and followers.
“To EVERYONE who has been there for us, supported us, and shown us love...We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life AS FRIENDS and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we’ve shared together,” the couple said in a joint statement posted to social media.
“Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this transition. Thank you for being there for us ALL THESE YEARS! We love you and appreciate you SO MUCH!”
