More than 80 percent of Black Americans voted for Vice President Kamala Harris, which might be why so many of us woke up feeling numb and betrayed. In modern fashion, Black folks took to social media to express their frustrations, and one Tiktok user’s response perfectly summed up how so many African Americans feel this morning.

“I just woke back up. What the fuck is going on,’’ said Tiktok user @spotlightsshanell.

But the truth is now in our faces. After being kicked out of office four years ago, former President Donald J. Trump has reclaimed his seat as the head of the nation. This election season was a doozy, filled with assassination attempts, drop outs, and a historic level of misinformation, but in the end, Trump claimed victory.

He swept in, painting the map red and grabbing key states. And although we all thought the race might be too close to call on night one, Trump and his MAGA movement were able to quickly secure the lead to walk away with 277 electoral votes.

The MAGA leader has been particularly polarizing this go-round, and with Trump beating out Harris for the presidential seat, social media has a lot to say in response. Black folks are expressing their feelings about a Harris loss, and one Black female Tiktoker made sure to quickly call out anyone who wanted to point fingers at Black men.

“Before y’all come for Black men, 80 percent of Black men voted for Kamala. Eighty-nine percent of white men voted for Trump,’’ Genevieve J wrote. “Sixty four percent of white women voted for Trump, 58 percent of latino men voted for Trump. Four hundred thousand people voted for Jill Stein. So before you open y’all open your mouths about Black men. Stop. That’s social media talk.”

On the flip side, a male Tiktok user lasered in on Black men. “I want to say one thing for every Black male American who decided to vote against their own best interest,’’ started Tiktok user @SugeWomack. “You have two years, two mid-term elections, if this man that y’all worshipped does not within the se lat year does not grant you the things he promised, I am on your head in the most disrespectful way, especially if you have a daughter and wife.”

Trump is Back

From being born a billionaire playboy to diving into American politics in 2015, Trump has now officially burned his way into the history books. His 2016 run against former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was a historic one. The inception of his “Make America Great Again” slogan divided the country in half, and with his first running mate, Mike Pence, Trump began construction on a Southern border wall, put a ban against Muslim immigrants in place, and collected the wood which would later burn into the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.

In the 2020 election, many thought Biden’s win over Trump would mean the end of the GOP nominee, but four years, a global pandemic, and 34 felonies later, Trump just proved everyone wrong. So now, it’s time to get serious.

The MAGA victor has big plans for the country’s future, all of which can be summed up in the form of Project 2025. This GOP playbook is designed to get rid of the Department of Education, finish Trump’s immigration wall, and even dismantle the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Trump has made promises to double down on his tax cuts for the wealthy, end DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), and undo the progress that came before him. Trump’s victory has many on edge about what the future of the nation will look like, but what’s even more shocking is both the Senate and the House of Representatives flipped red in favor of Trump. So with a conservative controlled legislative, judicial, and now executive branch, Trump has the perfect opportunity to do whatever he pleases.

Twitter Reacts

With all that being said, we can’t blame Black folks for this! The Black community showed up and out at the polls with more than 80 percent of African Americans voting blue.

Reelected Texas congress woman Jasmine Crockett took to X to give Harris her props and also look back to Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to run for president. She wrote “this election was more about us and what it is that we wanted for our future… and well PROJECT 2025 is loading…”

One user pointed out what possibly went wrong with the Harris-Walz campaign. “We always underestimate racism, misogyny, and stupidity. But mostly RACISM,” @aStatesman wrote.

Let’s all remember the 45th President was impeached not once... but twice.

For those now wondering how this same country could vote its first Black president in office twice, X user @theyscrewdmeg has the answer.

With Harris having professional experience in all three branches of the U.S. government, many like X user @Dimplez realize she was “Overwhelming qualified” but “Still doubted.”

Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, celebrated their victory last night at Mar-a-Lago. In response to their win, Trump said he’s ready to lead this “golden age of America.” He continued saying “We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly...We’re going to fix everything about our country, and we’ve made history for a reason tonight.”
