On Sunday, Beyonce finally took home the award for Album of the Year for her country music project, “Cowboy Carter.” However, some folks in the country community are not here for her win and they’re sounding off about it on social media.
As we previously told you, Bey also took home the award for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo Performance (for her song with Miley Cyrus) alongside her major AOTY win. This feat comes after decades of music and arguable snubs from the Grammys of some of her best work like “Renaissance” and “Lemonade,” let her die-hard fans tell it. It also comes after the major public call out the Recording Academy received back in 2024 from her hubby Jay-Z.
However, seeing her take home the award she’d been striving for for an album that wasn’t even in her “traditional” genre was enough to make some conservatives and country music fans seethe with anger and confusion and they didn’t hold back on expressing their feelings.
Beyonce’s Win is a “Slap in the Face” to Country Artists
As Lauren Oakes noted on TikTok, seeing the Houston singer take over and secure the win over country artists like Kacey Musgraves and Lainey Wilson was a slap in the face to staple Nashville artists who have been on the scene and “dedicated their lives” to this art form.
“[I] didn’t hate her album, I just don’t think it’s country music. She’s not in Nashville, she doesn’t come to Nashville except for on a tour date. The people that are here or their in country music, they’re living and breathing it,” she said. “They’re in the bars in Nashville, they’re promoting their music. They’re in Texas, they’re riding horses. They’re doing stuff that is the lifeblood of country music. This is a political, rigged, thing and it’s really hard to watch the Grammys now.”
Beyonce Is Just Greedy for More Money, Fame, Recognition by Going Country
TikTok user Rachel questioned whether the “II Most Wanted” singer only took a foray into the country music space because she wanted more money and fame. She called her AOTY win “disgusting” and “ridiculous” before asking for Bey and her album to go away and wishing for her to go bankrupt.
Beyonce’s Win Was “DEI,” “Cultural Appropriation” and More
Over on X/Twitter, sentiments were more of the same.
“GTFOH with Beyonce winning country album of the year. No way did that outperform Post Malone or Chris Stapleton,” wrote one user.
“W T F? Beyonce is NOT country. The album is pop garbage with assless chaps, a cowboy hat, and nothing even close to real country music. At least the real County Music Awards didn’t nominate her album. The only reason that it sold was her hubby paid for it to be played on repeat,” said another.
Added another user, “She put out a supposed country album. It gets zero air time, at least on the country stations I listen to. This is a PR move to make Beyoncé seem wholesome and All-American. That way when her connection with Diddy and his parties is whispered about, no one will believe it.”
“Yikes; #DEI anyone....or is this a case of cultural appropriation? #Beyoncé won best country album for the history-making “Cowboy Carter,” prompting a huge standing ovation. Among Nashville faithful, a wtf moment. Has she even been on a horse? Played the Opry?,” said another.
“Oh HELL NAH!! Beyoncé done got ‘Country Album Of The Year’ simply because she made ONE halfway country album, that had ONE hit song. What the hell kind of affirmative action/diversity/participation trophy bullshit is THAT. Oh and Jay Z groomed her from her teen years. Carry on,” one other user wrote.
