Dolly Parton is one of those rare people who is universally loved and admired. However, this far into her career, she’s still dealing with people commenting on her looks. The legend performed during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day 45-10 blowout of the Washington Commanders and everyone had an opinion on her outfit.

The 77-year-old “I Will Always Love You” songwriter looked fantastic in her Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader costume, but some viewers thought she needed to dress her age. This led friends and fans to defend the Grammy winner. Among her supporters were the women of The View, with the loudest voice being Whoopi Goldberg.

As they went through their regular “Hot Topics” segment, the EGOT winner recapped the events of the game and the reaction, before delivering her own thoughts in signature Whoopi fashion.

“Bite me,” she said, then moved on to the next topic.

First of all, who are these people (likely men) who decide what’s appropriate for a 77-year-old woman? Have y’all seen Dolly? She’s gorgeous. As co-host Sunny Hostin said, “If I looked like that in one of them Cowboys things, I might have everything out. I don’t know if that’s a belly ring or what, but I want what she has.”

The Sister Act star knows what she’s talking about, as Goldberg has been subjected to cruel criticism of her looks throughout her career. She recently revealed that rough reactions to her 1993 Oscars look led her to stop “dressing up for a very long time.” Her daring outfit was a lime green jumpsuit with a purple jacket/skirt combo. Honestly, it was a bold look that was yet another example of how the legend was ahead of her time, and she didn’t deserve the scorn she received.

As far as Dolly is concerned, when you have as many unforgettable hits as she does and do as much charity work as she does, you can wear whatever you want on stage. And let’s be honest, that game was over by halftime, so she was the most exciting thing on that field.
