The White House's response to news that Kanye West is throwing his hat into the ring for the 2020 presidential election is, if nothing else, a testament to how creative the rapper is.
According to the Associated Press, when asked about West's intentions to run in 2020, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that he's looking "forward to seeing what slogan [West] chooses to embroider on his campaign hat." Earnest was flying on Air Force One when he made the statement. President Barack Obama was on board, too.
Yep, White House officials are checking for Ye's campaign slogan. People just can't wait to see the visuals and talking points for a bid that folks on social media have already dubbed the "Ye We Can" campaign.
Obama upped the stakes with his "Hope" campaign photo back in 2008, a symbol that did very well as a means of visually distinguishing Obama's candidacy from the rest.
West is an actual artist who prides himself on creating memorable pieces that tell a story and have an impact on culture. So I am anticipating how West will package his candidacy and present it to American voters. It'll probably be one for the history books.
