Since she left her talk show for health reasons in 2021, and it was subsequently canceled in 2022, Wendy Williams has been through a lot of troubles. In addition to autoimmune illness Graves’ Disease, she’s also battled memory loss and substance abuse. She found herself as the subject of shocking headlines when she was put under a financial guardianship. Now, the star is trying to set the record straight on everything in her new Lifetime documentary, “Where is Wendy Williams?”—premiering Feb. 24 and 25.
The doc follows Williams as she deals with all of these personal struggles, showing the energetic, take charge personality we’ve come to know in a stunning, vulnerable new light. As her friends and family fight to get her help, she’s reluctant to believe things have gotten as bad as they are. In an exclusive clip released to People, former reality star Angela “Blac Chyna” White goes to visit her friend to show support and it’s clear Wendy may be struggling, but she’s definitely fighting.
In recent years, White has been very open about her own major life changes, so it makes sense that she would be there to help her good friend through her own health battles.
“You’ve always been honest with me, and put me in my place, in the most motherly, kind way,” White says in the clip.
“That’s why I love you so much, because even when I was going through my darkest times you never used that against me,” she continues. “That’s how you know that the love is genuine and it’s always going to be there. And I’m going to always be here for you, straight up.”
Wendy responds, “My real name is Wendy Hunter. Yup. And I’m divorced. He’s got no money.” This off topic reply concerns White, but she lets Williams know “I love you,” to which a determined Wendy says, “So do I.”
As shocking as Williams’ appearance is in the documentary, there is some good news about her health since the project was filmed. The talk show host’s sister, Wanda Finnie, and niece, Alex Finnie revealed that Wendy’s condition has improved.
“I spoke with her yesterday and I speak with her very regularly when she reaches out to me,” Wanda told People. “She is, from what I understand, in a wellness, healing type of environment.”
Wanda goes on to add that her sister is “in a healing place emotionally,” and that “She’s not the person that you see in this film.”
Alex explained that her aunt “sounds really great” and has a fresh appreciation for the “importance of family.”
“To hear my aunt now in terms of just how clear she is, just how focused she is on the importance of family and the reality in terms of facing and understanding where she’s at physically and mentally and emotionally, it is like a 180,” Alex says.
“Where is Wendy Williams?” premieres Feb. 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
