We have tragic news involving that little Black girl who was shot and critically injured as a result of a drive-by shooting.
Her mother announced that she will be taking her off life support.
“Now, I have nothing. They took my only kid, my only baby. I don’t have [anything],” said Brandy Crenshaw to FOX 2 Detroit.
On Feb 20., 11-year-old Lamara Glenn was sleeping on the couch at her aunt’s home in Detroit when a silver car pulled up out front and a group of men hopped out firing into the home.
Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald said approximately 23 shots were fired into the house where the child and multiple family members were present. However, Lamara was the only one with a reported injury, struck in the head with a bullet.
The girl was transferred to Detroit Children’s Hospital of Michigan where she was placed in critical condition and declared brain-dead. The doctors said there was no way to save little Lamara, the report says
Friday, she was taken off life support.
Lamara’s story reveals a chilling reality that gun violence had always lurked around the corner. Crenshaw told the outlet Lamara’s friend, Latrelle, died in a drive-by shooting while skating with friends in January. The home where Lamara was shot was also the target of another drive-by shooting back in December of 2023, Fitzgerald said.
Detroit police said they took four people into custody the following day and later arrested a fifth suspect. Authorities say the group is connected to a carjacking ring and also the killing of a 17-year-old boy. As of now, the motive of the shooting that eventually took Lamara’s life is unknown and boiled down to another senseless act of violence.
“My baby was an amazing. little girl, like a beautiful, wonderful girl that had a life ahead of her and it was cut short by some cowardly people,” the girl’s mom told FOX.
