It's no longer an on-set romance or even a budding relationship. Grace Gealey and Trai Byers—who play Anika Calhoun and Andre Lyon on Empire—are engaged, E! News confirmed Tuesday.
According to reports, Byers threw Gealey a surprise party at a Chicago restaurant to celebrate her 33rd birthday.
"She thought it would just be the two of them going to dinner, but when they got there, he had arranged a party for about 20 of her friends and family members to surprise her," a source told E! News.
It was there at the restaurant that Gealey was seen wearing an engagement ring, so Byers presumably proposed at some point prior to her surprise gathering.
"They are definitely going strong," a source said. "They make a really cute couple."
In TV land, Gealey plays Byers' former stepmom-to-be, since she was once engaged to his father, Lucious Lyons (played by Terrence Howard).
But in real life, she's about to be Mrs. Byers. Congratulations to the future newlyweds.
