The victim of a hate crime in Lutz, Fla., had the opportunity to shoot his attacker but chose not to. Cameron Mohammed was walking into a Wal-Mart with his girlfriend when Daniel Quinnell approached the couple from behind and began yelling racial slurs before firing on Mohammed with a pellet gun, reports the Tampa Bay Times. Quinnell assumed Mohammed — whose parents are from Trinidad — was Muslim.

Mohammed, 24, kept his gun in the holster. Because his attacker used a pellet gun. Mohammed's was real.

"I don't know. I just couldn't do it," Mohammed said, recovering at his Tampa home two days after the attack. "I couldn't blow this guy away for something he could change later in life. I'm not going to decide this man's fate."

After two days of searching, Pasco sheriff's detectives arrested Daniel Quinnell, 25, late Thursday.
